The boys got their hands on it and wanted to make some sort of train craft with it. I suggested that they glue it to a paper and make tracks for it. I pulled out cardboard paper for them, and it just so happened to be a gift box. I stock up on these in January when all the holiday items go for 90% off. I get packs of 3 or 4 gift boxes with covers for a few cents. I usually use them for crafts requiring sturdy paper.
So I gave them that, and then realized... hey, we can assemble the box, and the train will be elevated, like the subways here in NY.
Here is Zusha's masterpiece!
We made the tracks from notched popsicle sticks and a fence from wider sticks.
Trees from these fancy toothpicks I picked up once for our craft box, and a river from jumbo popsicle sticks.
A traffic light for the train... made from beads.
Zusha didn't want to glue his train on. He wanted to leave it so he can make it ride around the tracks.
Here is Gedalya's masterpiece!
The star and pompom are stations. (The beads fell off his traffic light because he couldn't wait for the glue to dry. Oh, well. He didn't mind so I don't, either.)
A staircase from pipecleaners (also from that summer package!)
A tunnel, from construction paper. Gedalya agreed to glue down his train ribbon. (Okay, so these are taxis, but there wasn't enough train ribbon to go around, so I convinced Gedalya that it's a yellow train.
Gedalya's river was made of blue ribbon...
The boys had a great time making this, and are SO proud of their little scenery creation.
Wow!!
ReplyDeletethis is such a nice idea, my kids love to do arts and crafts maybe we'll try a train station next.

Thanks... my kids love crafts, too, and I usually let them lead with their own ideas. They also love trains, so most crafts are inspired by them! LOL.
ReplyDeletebrilliant! what fun! :) glad you and the kids enjoyed it. the posts about them are so nice to see.
