Around Town

I went browsing through my list of posts and found this one that was never published. It's from over a year ago!

My boys love watching airplanes "crash" into (pass right under) the moon, or crash into each other (intersect at different heights. It rarely happens, so it's exciting when it does! Here you can see the smoke from one plane on the left, and another plane (faint) across the bottom of the image.
They did intersect, much to the boys' delight!

A lovely little birdie.

Is this a beehive? We saw it hanging up in a tree... no idea what it is, but it's cool!

I guess the reason I didn't publish this post is because I wanted more substance in it. So here's a recent bird, to keep the one above company in this post.

And one of the many sweet butterflies that are found in our yard. I've never seen so many butterflies out in nature in such a short period of time.
Because there is a "forest" (as close as it could get to a forest in NYC!) on the other side of our yard fence, I guess there are many caterpillars. So cool!

Around Town- Astronomy Edition

The Poozils are fascinated by space and all that is in it. They love it when I take photos of the moon and then we examine it together.

Sometimes we get lucky and chance upon the moon with a halo around it.

I was so excited to get a shot like this. It made for a great lesson in moon phases. I had explained to the boys that the entire moon is there all the time, regardless on how much of it we can see. But this real life example was much more impressive!

And this picture is just a treasure. Amazing what just a measly 10x zoom can do. All the dark and light spots... and you can even see craters on the bottom!

Hope you enjoyed this astronomy edition of Around Town!

Around Town

We bring you all the fun/funny/amusing/unusual sights from around our neighborhood!

We came across this display in the window of a silver store one day. Notice anything unusual?

How about from this angle?

(If you still haven't figured it out, continue on with this post. You will see at the bottom. :))

Lights on the highway, as seen from a moving car. Camera on long exposure.

Icicles!

Berries in the snow.

Uh... wait. One of those were not berries. Did you catch that? Take another look.

Speaking of not-berries...

This is feigele cheider as Zusha calls it. :)

Annnd, here is the answer to the riddle in the beginning of the post.

How much did they pay the designer to arrange the window display, I wonder...

Around Town- Fall Edition

Poison berries, mmmm...

Look at what Adel's got!

Some sort of fruit from some sort of tree. Looks like a hedgehog.

This was an awesome sight to see. I couldn't stop looking at the beauty. Black pods against a bright yellow and green backdrop. The photo doesn't do it justice.

Green, hot pink, red, beige, yellow, purple, brown... the scene was candy for my eyes!

It was warm enough for a few bees to come and collect the last remnants of pollen. You can even see the bee's nose (?) sucker (?) going into the flower.

Around Town

Time for another "Around Town" post, where I feature all kinds of silly, funny and cute things I find outside on our many walks.
This time, there are a couple of "Around the House" photos as well.

Like this ladybug who graced us with its presence. It's sitting on a leaf of our bean plants.

Isn't this adorable? We have some straws that have extra long bendy areas. The kids always make shapes from them before drinking. Hearts, circles, glasses, diamonds... you name it.
One morning I walked into the kitchen to find Gedalya's and Zusha's yogurts being friends. :)

An idea inspired by denture cups, perhaps?

Shtreimel vending machine. Just insert a check for several thousand dollars, select your preferred style and walk away with a new shtreimel!

This little scene with its vibrant colors caught my eye. There is nature and beauty in the city, as long as you keep your mind focused and take a moment to notice it.

Around Town

Feast!

The 123 store. According to Zusha, it was so named because kids who misbehave in there have until three to act nicely or leave the store. Teehee. :)

So that's where spring water comes from!

Is it just me, or is this a bad idea for a shticky day camp decoration??

A sweet little calico kitty in our local hermit dude's driveway.

This looks about right:

Around Town

Some weirdnesses I've collected around my beloved and quirky neighborhood. :)

I guess some stock boy was getting bored with his humdrum job and decided to have some fun!

How, uh, creative. The latest fashion in front steps!

The cat is out of the bag. And he's got PACIFIERS!
