Captellers and Bapipibees

Sorry, but I can't help but use the boys' silly toddler words.
That would be "caterpillars and butterflies" for those of you foreign to this language.

One day the boys received a little jar in the mail with five cute caterpillars inside.

At first they were small and black. But then they ate and ate and ate.
And the hungry little caterpillars grew. They sprouted fuzzy, white tufts.

We also got a mesh pop-up habitat for the butterflies to live in once they emerge from the cocoons.
Until then, we had to keep the caterpillars in the jar.

"What? I'z caterpillar."

Zusha and Gedalya adored their new "pets." They took them outside for walks. They brought them to library programs. They played with them.

Soon enough, the five little buggies were ready for the next big step in their life.

They climbed up to the top of their jar and began to hang upside down.

They made cocoons in two groups. First two caterpillars went, and the next day, the other three. After missing the transformation of the first batch, I was determined not to miss the second. I stayed up till 2 AM (not much later than my regular bedtime) but when the J shaped creatures remained J shaped creatures, I just went to bed. The next morning...

...there was not a caterpillar to be found at our house.
Only fabulous, iridescent cocoons.

Luckily, I found a great video showing the whole process. I posted it here.

And then, we waited....

Zusha (and Some Cats for the Fun of it)

There's something a bit off about these photos...

And I don't mean the choice of scarf with that hat, either. ;) (That's what happens when I'm nursing when Zusha is about to leave the house for cheider- I can't check him, and his Tatte doesn't see anything wrong with this choice. Heh heh.)

In the meantime, while you are pondering the issue, let me entertain you with some tidbits about this cute five-and-a-half year old boy.

He loves to talk. Especially to adults. Any opportunity he has, he will tell about his costume, about his siblings' costumes, his cat, his hamster, his deceased hamster and all the other animals we used to have during his lifetime. He is so happy to be able to talk to Adel's therapists whenever he gets a chance.

This child is absolutely in love with his sister. He comes to my bed every morning to play with her. He makes up songs for her. He runs for the opportunity to change her diaper or bring her something. He watches out for her. Even when it seems like he is totally engrossed in his play, he will notice if she put something from the floor in her mouth and will tell me to take it away. Whenever he is angry at me or at his brother, he would scream something like, "Go away! To to a monkey forest! I'll call a car service to take you there. Mama, Tatte, Gedalya... all of you except Adel. Adel and I will live here together."
I really have to restrain myself from laughing!

So, have you pondered? :)
Here is one last hint before I reveal the answer...

And before the final answer, let me interrupt you with a lolcat.

How We Got a Mel, Part 1

This little kitty that the boys love so much... I'm sure you are wondering how it came about that we have a CAT.

(Notice Gedalya's pajama-ed legs standing randomly on the windowsill as he leans casually on the window frame. This makes me laugh every time I look at it. :) The overflowing hamper, on the other hand, you don't necessarily have to notice.)

So this little kitty. How did we inherit him?
