School Bus, City Bus, Aahhhh...

December 31, 2006
Zusha 2 1/2 years old

Ever since I taught Zusha about school buses and city buses, he was obsessed with them. He made up a song about them: School Bus, City Bus, Aahhhh...
So one day I decided to treat him to a ride in a real, live city bus. We went to Ave J, nowhere special; but to him, it was the adventure of a lifetime!
He went on a kangaroo and had a blast exploring uncharted rides.
Since then we've gone on more city buses and a few trains, too.

Oy Chanuka, Oy Chanuka...

Zusha loved Chanuka. He loved every single detail. He loved watching Tatte prepare the Menora. He loved watching Tatte light the Menora. He absolutely ADORED singing "Oy Chanuka" all day long. All Chanuka long. And way past Chanuka... all the way to Purim!
He love playing Dreidel (his own version, of course.) And he loved the musical candle we got for him, which played his beloved Chanuka song. In fact, this is the only music he insists on listening ALL DAY LONG.

Zusha's Gems

"Mama, vava!"
"Where is your vava, Zusha?"
Touches foot.
"On your foosie?"
Points to heel:
"No, on foosie chin!"

We put out food for the birds one night on the window sill right outside our window. It was dark already, so I explained to Zusha that the birds are all sleeping and will come take the food tomorrow.
Zusha seemed a little anxious. I asked him what the matter was.
"Foygalach ken nisht nemen shpaiz." (The birds can't take the food.)
I told him that they can't take it now because they are sleeping, but tomorrow they will come take it.
"Foygalach ken nish nemen. Fogalach hoben nisht kein hentelach!" (The birds can't take it, they don't have have hands!)

Gedalya was jumping in the doorway jumper when Zusha said he wanted to jump. I told him that he has to wait because it's Gedalya's turn.
He waited. When he got in, he began to spin around in the jumper saying, "Now it's Zusha's 'turn!' "

Zusha wasn't used to the fact that Gedalya was pulling to a stand. So he pushed him down. When I asked why he did it, he said, "Zusha helps Gedalya to fall!"

8 Months is Full of Milestones!

*At 8 months old Gedalya started clapping his hands "landishi." He has a wonderful role model who taught him that clapping is a form of dancing, and not a trick in and of itself. So whenever Gedalya hears music, he claps!

*December 9 & 13, 2006: Gedalya got his 5th and 6th teeth.

*While Gedalya was repeating words for a while (like Tatte, Mama...), he hasn't said any real words of his own until now. On December 10th he was crying and said, "Vava!" (Means Boo-boo). Now when he cries, he sticks in "VAVA!!!" And on December 16th he said, "Mama," his second word.

*At 8 1/2 months Gedalya finally crawled! He was so close a few times that it's hard to pin it on a certain date. But the closest I can say is December 16th.

*December 18, 2006: Pulled to a full stand, holding onto car seat in Zusha's room.
