August 2008 Photos

Mirrored pillar near a bank:

Gedalya calmly walking over to Zusha and spilling a bucket of water over the poor, unsuspecting thing.

Come on! That wasn't nice!

I know, it wasn't, was it? Heh, heh, heh...

Pals

Sunglasses, Gedalya style.

Strong little boy!

Good morning! We arrived at the park!

Now this is really cool. There is a peach tree in someone's yard. It grows very nice sized, healthy peaches. The only thing is...

The entire trunk is totally hollow!

One major branch (in the foreground) is dead, but the other branch is alive and thriving! Unbelievable!

Week 8 of the Poozils' Summer

So the last couple of weeks are here. I was really wanted to fill it up with lots of memorable activities for the boys before cheider starts, and before the winter days.

August 17-22:

Sunday:
We went to the Kids' Gym again. We skipped last week, so after a 2 week break, the boys were enthusiastic to return! When we came home we made plaster cars. Boy was that a mini disaster! It seems that the kit didn't give precise instructions, because after following their water to powder ratio, I got a much thicker mixture than they described. It was supposed to be pourable, but we had to scoop it into the molds. Then the plaster dried too fast, before we had a chance to fuse the 2 halves. So I had to make more plaster mixture to use as a "glue."
Then the wheels had to be made separately, and then glued on. Like, why? It's not like they are real wheels that can turn. Oh, whatever.

Monday:
The kids were very eager to paint their plaster cars! So we did. Then, to satisfy their need to paint, I gave them each a piece of poster board folded in half. They painted one half, then I quickly folded it over with the painted side IN, and cut out a butterfly shape. Then we opened it up, and there was a beautiful butterfly with symmetrical design on the wings. They really enjoyed this one!

And here are the finished cars!

Then we headed to the library for toddler RIF. They listened to the librarian read books and played some hand-motion games. Then they had a little arts and crafts! They made frogs from a paper plate that they colored red on the inside and green on the outside, cotton balls and googly eyes for the eyes, a foam shape for the tongue, and green strips of paper folded accordion style for dangly legs. They worked SO hard on them, and were so proud!

While we were walking, I was telling Zusha how he will go on the bus by himself soon, and will go to a new Rebbe in cheider and all nice things like that. And then we met Zusha's Rebbe from last year! It was nice. He said hi to Zusha, and Zusha shouted an enthusiastic Hi!!! back, and waved. :)

Tuesday:
We had a cleaning lady, so we stayed home for most of the day. In the afternoon we headed over to CVS and played a little on Ocean Parkway, by the bars they love to climb on.

Wednesday:
I went for my glucose tolerance blood test in the morning, so my mother took the boys. It was pretty unpleasant. I had to drink a yucky glucose drink, sit for an hour in the stuffy, disgusting lab waiting room with a nasty receptionist, all while fasting. Finally I got the blood test, and it I didn't feel faint, B"H.
Then I met my mother and the kids, and together we went to a mini-carousel on 13th Avenue.
I promised them this carousel a looong time ago, at the beginning of the summer, but it was broken. :( My mother lives closer to it than I do, so she kept checking every so often, and finally the fixed it! So we went.

Thursday:
We decided to go to "cheider park," otherwise known as 18th Avenue park. We used to go every day when Zusha was in cheider, but haven't gone even once all summer! It was very enjoyable. Zusha also got to see his cheider, so he was excited to see a familiar sight, without the obligation to go in and stay. I think it will help him prepare a little emotionally when he goes back in two weeks.

We bought a whole bag full of delicious, rosy, sweet apricots. Then we washed them and ate them!

The boys were ripping leaves off bushes, and I told them to stop. They did, but then Gedalya ran back to rip some more. So Zusha is tattling on him to me. :P

The kids were playing around this thing, which is meant to chain bicycles to. They were climbing, and Zusha discovered a little hole at the top of each bend. He figured out that if you speak into one hole, someone else can listen from another hole, and it will sound like the voice is right in your ear. We all had fun talking and listening!

Friday:
My midwife called with not such wonderful news. :( I tested high on the glucose tolerance test. Now I have to go off all sugar and most carbohydrates. Basically, I need to overhaul my entire diet, and then get tested again.

Latest Doings with the Little Ones

A couple of weeks ago Gedalya woke up in the middle of the night, but fell asleep without nursing. One of those times he even fell asleep without me in the bed! So I decided to keep it up. At one point, he realized that something was off and cried and demanded half the night. But I wasn't going to give in, because that would mean the 4 nights of progress would go down the drain.

The next morning I explained to him that he can have nyama only when he is going to sleep and waking up in the morning. NOT when he wakes up in middle of the night. He seemed to accept it.

And... he actually began sleeping through the night!! Some nights he wakes up and all I have to do is lie next to him for a few minutes. But other nights he just doesn't bother- it's not worth it anymore ;)

So this is very exciting news, as I'll be able to start putting both boys to sleep in their own beds now again! YAY!

~~~~~~~~
Tonight was very funny. Zusha was falling asleep cuddled up next to me. As soon as his eyelids started fluttering, the baby kicked him! Zusha snapped his eyes wide open, and with a huge grin began to tell me how the baby kicked him, and even showed me with his legs what the baby did. :D
The funniest part: it happened 3 times! Three times Zusha was almost asleep, and 3 times the baby started kicking right then. Hahaha. What a mischievous little kid. Will fit right in with his brothers. :D
The Poozils' Summer, Week 7
August 10-15
Monday:
My friend from Crown Heights (Tehilla from Imamother) came for a visit. :) It's always so nice when she comes!
One of her little girls, same age as Gedalya.
The boys, having fun...
It was drizzling in the morning, so the boys took along umbrellas. The rain stopped before they fulfilled their need to walk around with umbrellas, so Gedalya opened his and went into the sprinklers like that!
Tuesday:
We started the day off in the park.
...Then we went to CVS. On the way we passed through Ocean Parkway, and the kids had an awesome idea to climb on the fence that runs down the sidewalk.
On the way from CVS, the boys spotted a bulldozer! At first they just looked on in awe...
Then they began to gather small pebbles to throw into the shovel...
Then they really warmed up and began filling up the bulldozer's shovel with larger and larger stones!
Wednesday:
Just a park day...
After the regular park session, we went to the "hang side" as the kids call it- the gym for big people with lots of bars to hang from and climb. Gedalya scaled a tall ladder.
Zusha watching on in wonder as Gedalya attempted to stand on the top bar!
Thursday:
It was a rainy morning. No fun. We hadn't really gone out the day before, and the next day would be Friday... so no real chance for a fun day.
Then I decided- why let rain affect our plans for a fun day? We threw on rain jackets and put on water shoes, grabbed the beloved umbrellas, and headed out! It was fun as it is, but then it got really great when we discovered HUGE puddles in a Yeshiva's open yard. A little boy's dream! :D
