Those Eyes!

I Heart Faces - Photography Challenges and Photo Tutorials
Adi two years ago, at age ten months.

I think all parents spend countless hours gazing into the eyes of their babies, until they have learned every nuance of their child's soul.

In our family, we often talk about eyes. Both my husband and I have brown eyes. Both our mothers have brown eyes as well. And both our fathers have blue eyes. The odds are decidedly against blue! Nevertheless, our first child was born with clear blue eyes. His brother came along two years later, with eyes to match his parents, with a hint of green thrown in. So Zusha started wondering why he was the only blue eyed family member. I never realized how much his eye color bothered him until he started predicting that our third child will be a girl, with blue eyes. (And earrings.)

And indeed, our third child was born- a girl, with blue eyes. (But no earrings.) Zusha couldn't have been happier- or prouder. He now had a blue-eyed pal, and all is well in his world. He didn't feel like the odd one out.

Adi's blue eyes have undergone a lot of scrutiny and questioning. Every doctor we took her to in regard to her developmental delay asked us about her eyes. They are too blue. Does anyone else in the family have blue eyes? Even though Adi has a blue-eyed brother, her eyes get a lot of attention. The doctors are looking for clues to find genetic causes to her many delays, and the eyes get questioned first.

But these bright, sky blue balls of life are just her. They are just Adi, bright, beautiful and intriguing.

Friends for Life

My boys can be each others' mortal enemies, and they can also be the best friends in the world. It all depends if they are fighting with each other (for a toy/game/computer) or if they are teamed up fighting with me (against bedtime or picking up their room.)

But one thing I can count on is their unconditional love for their sister. They stop randomly throughout the day to tickle her, tell her they love her, give her a hug or eat her up.

I often overhear them telling Adi that she is the cutest baby that walked the planet. They argue over who gets to sit next to her at mealtime. They indulge her requests to play "Row Your Boat" with her when I don't have the time.
These boys would do anything for their little sister. I feel so blessed that Adi will have two of the best guys looking out for her for years to come.
It's a true blessing when siblings are also the best friends they could ever wish for.

Whimsical

I Heart Faces - Photography Challenges and Photo TutorialsPeople often comment on my photos... how do I, living in the city, find some really nice photography settings? You just have to keep your eyes open... And then you will find some real whimsical photo opportunities! Hard to believe this was taken just a few blocks from my home, on a busy avenue, but it was. Of course, the adorable little boy is pretty whimsical himself, regardless of the whimsical setting. :)

Wet Puppy

I Heart Faces - Photography Challenges and Photo Tutorials

This week's I Heart Faces theme is "boys." And boy, oh, boy, do I have boys! I was stymied as to which of my thousands of boy photos I should enter. There are so many facets to my boys. They are sassy, kind, loving, rambunctious, sweet, loud and wacky. Which trait to portray?
I remembered last summer, when I caught the above photo... I instantly thought, "If I had to choose a photo to depict Gedalya's personality, this would be it!"
He is a stereotypical boy; always running, jumping, splashing, flying, defying gravity, and providing me with photos that seem to contradict the laws of physics.

I Heart Faces

I Heart Faces - Photography Challenges and Photo Tutorials
I finally decided to enter I Heart Faces. I've been following that site on and off for a long time, and I'm jumping in!

This week's theme is bright and vivid, which is the way I like to compose/edit most of my photos.

I dressed up Adi one morning. She outgrew this dress, and I wanted a picture of her in it before I have to put it away.

And in typical 2 and a half year old fashion, she marched over to the sandbox, plopped herself down, and began to eat sand by the handful.
What a dainty little girl... :)
