slept with the hamsters last night.
No, not in their cage. No need to call the CPS.
He was in bed when he came running to me. There was a noise that he heard and he was scared.
Zusha: There's a noise in my room! And it's not from the hamsters, it's from the wall.
Me: So sleep on the floor. Then you won't be near the wall.
Zusha: But I'm scared of the whole room!
Nothing I said or did would convince him to go back to bed, so I offered:
Me: What if I bring the hamsters to your room? Then when you'll hear a noise, it will be from the hamsters?
Zusha: Emes'dik?
Me: Do you want me to?
Zusha: Yes! But first bring them and then I'll come because I'm afraid.
So I brought the cage to his room. And then I heard the noise he was referring to- it was the chirping of the crickets outside! I told him it was just the crickets, but I closed the window and put on the air conditioner to block the noise anyway.
So my son slept as his hamsters stood guard by his bed.

{*They're not really teddy bear hamsters- they are the bigger version, bear hamsters. But since such a breed does exist, and it was fitting in the context of the story, that's the term I decided to use!}

Once Zusha was looking through a Hagada. He pointed to a picture in Chad Gadya and asked who it was. We told him, "Malach Hamaves."Another day we were in a store and Zusha called out, "Look! The Malach Hamaves!" I turned around and saw... a Spider Man themed toy! Hahaha.
