*I bought 8 large slices of salmon for $13 plus change. They 50% off because they were in the freezer. They were only packed three days earlier, so I got them for $4.25 a lb!
*It was pretty windy on Friday. As we were walking, there was an especially strong gust of wind. Across the street from us was a large empty lot which we have seen used by day camps for various things. The large gate was closed. Inside were tent-like structures made of metal poles and white canvas. The wind lifted them over the ten foot fence. One side of the tent remained in the ground while the other flew up over 20 feet above ground. It hovered like that for several seconds before crashing down. Whoa. What a neis that no one was there then! Then a second tent flew over the same way. This one hit a car and set off the alarm. We just stood there watching in awe.
*Today a spider made a web outside my kitchen window. A gorgeous, classic web. Then, as I watched, he decided he didn't like it and proceeded to crumple it. It was such an unusual sight. With his front legs, he pulled it towards himself and made a little ball of it. Then he climbed into our dryer tube and is still sitting there. Never saw anything like that before.
*We planted lima beans. Those things are unbelievable. And I don't mean the cliche unbelievable. I literally would not have believed it had I not seen it. We planted then sometime midweek. On Friday night there was still nothing. On Shabbos morning, the kids ran to me excitedly reporting that one bean grew. It was out of the earth entirely. The one inch long bean and 1/2 inch stem popped out over the course of a few hours! By evening, the plant was straight, the bean halves were open, and leaves were visible. By morning, 24 hours after emerging, it was 5 inches tall. We noticed it was leaning towards the window too much so we turned the planter. Came back an hour later, and it has turned towards the window again! It's mind boggling.
dude what a collection of bizarre freakorama cool things! the spider thing is hilarious. was it a hormonal day? not enough coffee?
ReplyDeleteFunny you ask about coffee... I haven't been drinking it because our hot water urn broke. It's too much of a hassle to boil up water because with the kids and all, I'd likely forget it and start a fire. I guess I'm not addicted. I still buy iced coffee when I go out once in a while, though. :)
ReplyDeletei meant maybe the spider needed some coffee.
ReplyDeletebut sorry your urn broke.
