Zusha's Rebbe sent a note that today (Taanis Ester) the boys should wear their costumes to cheider. I didn't want to ruin Zusha's real costume. I worked too hard on it! So I decided to use his lion costume from last year.
So I scoured his closet for the right color clothes (beige/honey.) I found a top, but not pants. Then I remembered that I bought him pants for next year that were the color I needed. I pulled them out of storage.
Then I adjusted the cuffs and sewed them (lightly) onto the shirt and pants. Did all of that in middle of the night last night. This morning as I was dressing him, Zusha kept asking me for the crayon costume. I explained to him why not. He agreed to the lion costume... but then changed his mind.
Oookay... so I told him he can go in regular clothes if he wants. He got excited and agreed. And then again had a meltdown. Whatever. I wasn't going to push it. So he stayed home. And my effort of altering the costume he wore three years ago (and one year ago as well) to fit him now went out the window. Oh, well.
Here's a commemoration to Zusha's brief lion stage this morning:
At least I got the shalach manos all packed! That's a load off. I put a chocolate, tangerine, and organic naturally-colored lollypop in, together with a little notepad. Wrapped them up in yellow and purple tissue paper (the colors of the crayon costumes) and stuck them into the pencil cases. Then I slid the mini pack of crayons into the pencil case, outside of the tissue paper, so it can be seen through the clear pencil case.
Simple, cute, and not expensive in the least!
$1.20 for ALL the pencil cases
$6 for all the notepads and crayon packs
$5 for the chocolates
$5 for the tangerines
and the lollipops... I had those from before so I don't remember the price.
10 shalach manos for under $20. Verrry cool

I went to hear the megilla... and now Adel just woke up shrieking because of a car that zoomed down our block, rattling the house with earsplitting Purim music.
