Good, supportive shoes will get her to stand on the soles of her feet and hopefully give her more balance.
The criteria was: high top, lace up, arch support, flexible sole. Unfortunately, sandals, Mary Janes or even t-straps aren't supportive enough. The company the PT recommended was Ecco, so we armed ourselves with this info and headed to our friendly local shoe shop.
At first the worker showed me these:
Which I thought were cute, but not cute enough for Adel. I asked him to show me more options, but this was all he had. So I asked him to show me the boyish styles. He showed me these two:
I ended up choosing the brown ones. Looking at them now, the blue looks kind of cuter to me, but seeing them in real life, I liked the brown better. I'm not crazy about the white laces, but whatever.
At home, I snooped around a bit online and found a whole bunch more options for the same shoes. I'm considering returning the ones I bought and ordering these:
The same exact style, but in a lilac theme.
I also like these. Different color schemes of the girlie ones I was shown first:
...but I don't know if I like them that much more than the ones I chose. I'm not sure they are worth the hassle of returning and buying again.
I like this one as well. It's not available on Amazon in Adel's size, but I can search around if I determine that I want them.
I don't especially like these, but thought I might as well post them in the interest of considering all my options:
So what is the verdict? Do I keep these?
Or do I go through the hassle of returning and get one of the other options? This is a small neighborhood store, so they won't take returns so kindly if my reason is just that I found a nicer pair elsewhere. They measured Adi's feet, they spent time showing and discussing all the options...I can just ask for store credit and use the money to buy sandals for Zusha, but their price range is $60, which is way above what I want to spend. I paid $65 for Adi's shoes because she needs this specific type, and I was wincing all through the transaction.
In any case, here's hoping that the shoes will be Adi's gateway to standing and walking!

So interesting. I bought Dovy hightops, because I thought they would help his stability. In reality though, the higher shoe made it impossible for him to walk well (or basically at all). I ended up taking them back & buying these: http://www.ecco.com/int/en/collection/kids/infants/73181/56303/detail.do (funny, because they really don't look like that IRL). He does much better in them- when he allows me to put them on him at all. Mr Man likes his toes to be able to breathe.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my megillah. I thimk you should keep those. They'll match everything.
Those shoes are cute! I had never gotten my boys high tops, except one pair of shabbos shoes by an expensive company that were on a big big sale. They were even fine with strappy sandals. And I don't think the high shoes inhibited their movement.
ReplyDeleteThe PT comes tomorrow so then I will get to decide whether to keep these... or maybe she will allow me to get sandal high tops. Oh, I wish!
I'm going right over to FB to see your pics! Sorry I haven't as of yet... too busy googling Williams Syndrome, Fragile-X, celiac disease... all the good stuff. :)
I think it must've specifically been Dovy's problem. He was sitting on the floor & crying. And then he started crawling again, which he hasn't done since he started walking. It was very odd.
ReplyDeleteCeliac disease? We did all the good GI tests with Chayale. Even stool collection. I could be perfectly fine never having to do that again.
ReplyDeleteI say keep them.
