And You Thought YOUR Child's Tantrums Were Embarrassing

Zusha is sick again.

What else is new? That's the story of our winter. Go to school for 2 days, stay home sick for 3 weeks, go back to school for 4 days, stay home another 2 weeks...

So he's sick again.
And tantrum prone. I have a policy to ignore him when he doesn't talk like a human being. When he's sick, I'm lenient and will remind him that I can't hear nor understand him when he screams. So today he wanted to go to the grocery after we left the park and started crying, "No, I don't want to go home! I want to go to the food store! AahAHahAhaHaH! I want to go to the FOOD store! Why aren't you answering me?????" (Hm, I don't know? Why?) But he fell asleep in the carriage before I had a chance to remind him of our "speak like a human being" rule.

So since today was an extremely unseasonably warm day (like no coats in middle of January...) I went to the grocery, got myself something to eat and a magazine, and headed to the park for some quiet time while both boys slept in the carriage.

When Zusha woke up he tantrummed some more.
But a couple of tantrums were really so cute, they are worth recording. ;)

Zusha remembered his request to go to the "food store" from before his nap. So when we left the Avenue without going into a grocery, he began to howl. (Remember, he's not feeling well.)
I explained to him that we went to many different stores already, we have food at home, and it's already late, and besides, I can't understand him when he screams.

"Noooo, Mama, I want to go to a FOOD store! With bananas, milk, yogurt, yes! Such a store! Not a toy store, I don't want you to buy me toys (I didn't), I want you to buy me milk! We don't have any more milk at home!"
(Child Protection Services, are you listening?)

When it got chilly in the evening, I put on his coat and zipped it up. He unzipped it, and I didn't press the issue.
Not too long after that he decided he wants it zippered and started crying again, "Mama, why didn't you zip up my coat? Look, all the children have their coats zippered up. Zip! Up! My! Coat!!!"

What a tough day for Zusha- his mother only goes shopping for toys instead of groceries and doesn't want to buy him milk. And she has him parading the streets with his coat all open when all other children's coats are zippered.
What a day.

Gedalya's Vocabulary, 21 Months

I'm not going to add little pictures before each word because it's very time consuming, and Gedalya began to use words other than nouns, which makes it more challenging to find a fitting picture.

pillo- pillow
yamuka- yarmulke
kuwana- triangle
ponti- band-aid
poe- pol/floor
tis- tish/table
lekaka- lechtele/candle flame
adit- adet/put on (clothes)
pila-pala- peanut butter
balow- blow (nose)
mnga-mngu- mushroom
nge-ngi- geit nisht/doesn't go
pawawa- take something off, or come out
pinina- piano
bini- brilin/glasses
wapa- varfen/throw
dama- paidyom/outside, a walk outside
elicopte- helicopter, new version (old version was kapkapka)
atala- Hatzola
adula- havdala
ambti- arbet nisht/doesn't work
kooya- hoyach/high or loud
kakin- shteken/stick
eet- is
toilet
kita- salfetochka/napkin
otuch- oichet/also

tele- teler/plate
On Chanuka I bought paper plates with dreidel and menora designs for the kids. Gedalya said, "Naye tele, mmmmm!" (New plate, mmmm.)

hanit leeb- hut nisht leeb/doesn't like
This phrase I am very impressed with, since he is now saying things that are not just simple enough to get his point across. He was eating popcorn one time and didn't like it. So he said, "Hanit leeb pkrwpkrw," (doesn't like popcorn.) He could have very simply said, "No," and that would've brought his point across well. But now he says "hut nisht leeb" for things he doesn't like.
One time he said something really funny. He saw a picture on the computer of a kid lying in the snow. He thought it was Zusha and said, "Tuta hanit leeb kayak!" (Zusha doesn't like carriage!) Meaning that if he's lying outside in the snow instead of in the carriage, it must mean he doesn't like the carriage!

These are the words he uses to negotiate with Zusha regarding food items:
alle- alle/all
ganta- gantze/whole
atach- asach/a lot
aba- halbe/half
kiku- shtikel/piece

alle titne coluf- alle farshidene colors/ all different colors
He really picked this up from Zusha, but he uses this properly. Zusha likes to teach Gedalya how to say words correctly.
"Gedalya, say far, Gedalya, say!"
"Fa..."
"Far-shi..."
"Fa-ti,"
"Far-shi-de-ne!"
"Titne!"

(Same for Kiddush, which Gedalya calls lue-lue.)
"Gedalya, say ki, Gedalya, say!"
"Ki!"
"Say dush,"
"Duf,"
"Say, ki-dush,"
"Lue-lue!"

A few more of Gedalya's gems...

It was late, and Zusha was already sleeping. I asked Gedalya if he wants to go to sleep. He said no. I asked him why, and he said, "Tia kama." (Tirele farmacht/the door is closed.) Of course, how can he go to sleep if the door to the bedroom is closed? ;)

Once Gedalya wanted to take a tissue out of the box, but instead he pulled them all out. He was so surprised that he started laughing and saying, "Alle kita? Mmmmm!" (All tissues? Mmmm!)

This is how he counts:
Ein, dai, pinow!
(Ein, drai, finef/1,3,5)

And a few full sentences...
"Kia mak waaa!" (Truck makes waaa/siren.)
Zusha was pretending to be a baby, and Gedalya said, "Yaya otuch kei beby," (Gedalya also small baby.)

The Library is SO Much Fun!

There is so much to do at the library!

You can choose any book you want to read.

And read all the books you want.

You can play with a toy squirrel.

And you can just have a great time with your brother!

You can ride on the elevator... it's not that scary when your brother holds your hand...

And best of all, you can press the CALL button on the elevator!
(Click to see- he really pressed it! I didn't realize until the deed was done because I was behind the camera. Don't know if anyone answered, we got out of there FAST!)

You can also have a false dirty diaper alert, forcing Mama to drag wipes and an extra diaper, the carriage and the kid to the bathroom, to struggle with pants and snaps and who knows what else only to discover the diaper was clean. Your Mama will then use the only extra diaper to change you since she got that far already.

At the library, you can also have a REAL dirty diaper alert, forcing Mama to drag wipes, the carriage and the kid to the bathroom, to struggle with pants and snaps and who knows what else, take care of the task, realizing that that was the only extra diaper we had that just landed in the garbage can.

But, I don't think you want pictures of that.

IS!

Sometimes Zusha does something funny and asks me to look. He would either cross his eyes, or close one eye and keep the other one open... subtle things that Gedalya doesn't realize.
So Gedalya, wanting to be like his big brother, also asks me to look at him and just stands there smiling. :)
Sometimes Zusha points out something interesting in the street, which Gedalya doesn't notice. But he still wants to belong, so he will pretend to notice.
Which brings us to Gedalya's most valuable new word: is, or rather eet.

One time Zusha saw a pedestrian crossing light which had "WALK" and "DON'T WALK" on at the same time. He said, "Look, Mama, it's both! It's funny!"
Then the walk signal went off, leaving only the don't walk.
Zusha said, "Oh, now it's not funny."
Gedalya, not following any of this, was not to be left out.
"EET pani," he said.
"No, it's not funny," Zusha answered.
"EET!"
"No!"
"EET!!!"

Another time the boys were looking out the window at twilight.
"Koonkoon (dark)," Gedalya said.
"No, it's ALMOST toonkel, " answered Zusha.
"Eet koonkoon."
"No!"
"EEEET!"
........

What is This?

Zusha made this for me... it's just what I always wanted!
This is...
