I promised a few posts down to post our bay trip photos... here they are!
Does anyone know what this interesting water fowl is? I never saw one like this before.
Anyway, we visited Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and had a picnic.
As usual, Gedalya climbed a tree.
You can't keep this boy on the ground.
We went to this same bay exactly three years ago, and Gedalya was a tree boy then as well. :)
Notice any other similarities? The same shirt! Ha! (Not the same exact one. We passed the smallest one down to a friend, Gedalya grew into Zusha's, and Zusha grew into a larger sized one I bought ahead. )
Gedalya is 2 years 4 months in the photo above...
And Adi is 2 years 9 months in the photo below.
But she's not doing any Yaya-style stunts yet. She can only watch and marvel at Gedalya's antics.
And try to pull him back down to Earth!
My circus boy (as he calls himself.)
One day he can be running like the wind, climbing like a little trapeze monster, jumping from place to place like a lemur, hanging up side down like a Gedalya... do gravity defying stunts and come out just fine. And then one day he can trip while splashing in the sprinklers and slice open his knee on who-knows-what. Go figure.
That bird is a cormorant, sometimes called a "snake-neck bird". It dives and swims long ways underwater to catch fish. Its most distinctive features are (1) the way it sits low in the water with only the top of its back, along with the head and neck, showing (unlike a duck, which floats on top), and (2) its habit of drying its feathers by perching somewhere (like on a rock) and holding its wings spread out, looking sort of like a broken umbrella. It does this because it lacks the oils that other waterfowl have that keeps their feathers and skin from getting soggy, so it needs to air-dry.
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled on your blog by accident, and I happen to like birds.
A broken umbrella. LOL! Thanks. I like birds, too. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing portraits! And the same shirt is so funny--
ReplyDeleteAlthough--3 years is a big time difference for hand-me-down clothing. My Yosef is wearing clothes that he remembers Eli wearing--he's not complaining at all (At least not at this age) but often he'll spend a few minutes explaining to me why he doesn't want to wear a particular shirt or outfit (He'll say: "IT IS ELI'S!!!)
It's not exactly three years. Zusha wore it at age 4 and 5. The next summer when he was 6, it got passed down to Gedalya who was 4. Now it's his 2nd summer of wearing it. Not all clothes last through 4 seasons of use by active boys, but this one did somehow!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I put clothes from one boy's closet to another, but usually it's PJs where size isn't that important. Then they also get confused. LOL
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you left a comment on my blog, I remember visiting here quite awhile back. I enjoyed looking at your posts...my little boys are now grown (and one is expecting a boy in Dec.) We had our share of stitches, and lots of time spent in trees...and so funny about the shirts. My kids got hand-me-downs from my sisters boys...faded and well loved! Enjoy the rest of your summer, your photos are just beautiful of your kids!
Thanks Anita!
ReplyDeleteI know stitches are inevitable... and annoying and painful and in this case, life disrupting.
I have your blog in my sidebar and check it often! I'm a sucker for good home-made nature photos. :)
