Lake Park, Trip #3

My in-laws got a new car, and it's big enough for all of us to fit! We are finally able to go on trips together. In the old car, the boys' booster seats took up the entire back seat, so Adel couldn't fit. My mother in law kept offering to take us places, but it was never possible. Now it is!
Our first voyage (about a week and a half ago) was to Prospect Park.

We found these (parked) pedal boat thingies and the boys were excited to stand on a boat!! in the lake!!

The lake also had these cool yellow dragonflies:

And swans!

And cygnets!

A whole swan family!

We fed bread to the two parents and their quadruplets.

And then we continued on.

Through an echo tunnel...
...which the boys absolutely loved.

We continued on over a bridge.

We discovered a waterfall!

The boys really wanted to stay in the water and wade a little more, but since we were there with other people, we had to listen to their wishes. I hope to go back to Prospect Park one of these weeks and let the boys stay in there for a nice long time. :)

We continued on and came across the Audubon Center. I've seen it many times, but this was the first time it was open. Inside was a mini museum for kids. They had tanks of water from the lake, small dishes to scoop it into and magnifying glasses to observe what grows there. They had an interactive migration map of the birds that pass Prospect Park and stop there to rest.
They had giant models of a duck, cardinal and squirrel with a hole at the back of the head and lenses in the eyes. Kids are able to stand behind the animals, look into the hole, and see the way this animal sees. Peripheral vision, coloration and all!

But Gedalya's personal favorite was:

A set of wings! And if you think it doesn't get any better, it does.

A realistic life-sized nest!

My little birdie!

Then we headed to a playground that's within Prospect Park. Unfortunately, Gedalya got stung by some insect while playing in the sprinklers. It was some sort of a wasp or bee type- it was black and yellow. But it didn't leave a stinger in, and stung Gedalya two times. Who knows... It caused a lot of drama (mostly with my mother-in-law insisting Gedalya keep ice on the site of the sting, and Gedalya refusing and screaming in terror) but by bedtime, the swelling went down and the incident was forgotten.

The kids are drawing a map of Prospect Park as we speak as I write type. They are copying it from a real map of the park. And begging me to go again tomorrow.
