Mr. Zusha is a great kid.
He can be found at our house, helping his siblings, doing mitzvos, earning mitzva stickers and asking all kinds of questions.Zusha helps Gedalya put on his shoes.
And he changes Adel's diapers. He is so proud that he is able to do it! He forced Gedalya to watch him one time. Gedalya wandered away four times, and Zusha ran after him, calling, "Gedalya you're not finished yet!" (Note the you. As in, you are not finished watching.)
Zusha asks me things about how things work. Why planets are round. How much is a mile. Which substances are solid, liquid and gas. Why space never ends. About calendars. I got him and Gedalya cool Mickey Mouse watches. They are analog, and there is a window where the date changes. Zusha was so happy that now he won't have to ask me to help him find today's date in his calendar. All he has to know is what page (month) we are on.
Zusha is really ambitious and (along with Gedalya) is teaching himself to read English. He asks me questions galore, and I was forced to teach him several rules, such as the silent "e" at the end of a word and how it affects the preceding vowel. I say "forced" because I wasn't sure how much to teach him, since he hasn't mastered Yiddish/Hebrew reading yet and I didn't want him to be confused. (In cheider they aren't learning English yet. They are learning Yiddish and Hebrew first and will begin English next year, in first grade.) His classmates will be learning the alphabet while he will be reading beginners' books. He already read one baby book to Adel, in full, on his own!
I'm coming to accept the fact that this Purim will be the last one we will be having themed costumes. Zusha already had many opinions about what he wants to be. Eventually we all agreed on a theme- very fitting for this year since Purim is on Motzai Shabbos- Havdala! It will be hard, and I'm squeezing out all my creative juices. But I have set a precedent for myself the previous years and now I'm in trouble.
And that's all the Mr. Z news for today!
you can still do themes, you take what the boys want to dress up as and find a theme to match.
ReplyDelete$12 for adel's costume? what are the boys being that they are only $8 combined?
ReplyDeleteDon't tell the boys that I'm spending less on them. ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are being a havdala candle and grape juice bottle. For the candle I ordered a length of khaki fleece (like I used for the crayons last year) for $3. I will make a crown of fire from corrugated metallic paper, which is $0.79 a pack. I'm using less than one pack.
Grape juice- last year's purple crayon tunic inside out (free), a khaki label around the middle from the same material as the candle (free) and a white jar lid on the head ($1 for jar).
Adel is being besamim, and that ended up being more $$ than I expected. She will have a two-layered organza dress with flowers inside. Organza: $4, fake flowers to fill the dress: $6, potpourri to fill it: $2, ribbons for shoulder straps and head bow: $6
Yeah, that's more than $12, but I posted before I bought the ribbon. I didn't expect it to cost so much! I only bought 3 yards. *shrug*
But with Zusha's costume $3 and change, and Gedalya's under $1, it comes up to $22. Still good. :)
If only I could sew...
ReplyDeleteyou can use staples and masking tape
ReplyDeleteyou can use staples and masking tape
ReplyDeleteWhat's there to it? Thread a needle and poke material. In and out, in and out. I'm not doing fancy machine work. I wish I had a sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you can use staples and tape, but then you have to throw the costume away. It won't be in a shape to keep for next year.
What are everyone's kids dressing up as?
I don't know yet. It's so hard to find tznius costumes. I don't even know if I can do a theme. My girls want to be girlie (i.e. Queen Esther, Kallah...)& my 12-18m costume that I bought for Lizi is a butterfly. I can't do that to Dovy. I guess I could let the girls wear shabbos dresses & get crowns, scepters & capes at the party store. If I let them wear makeup, they won't complain so much. (I hope)
ReplyDeleteGAMZu, I love you, but don't make me humiliate myself. I don't even do buttons. It's a genetic thing. My mother & grandmother avoid sewing like the plague as well.
