Electricity Hat!

Zusha came home from cheider on Tuesday and upon seeing this

exclaimed, "Hey! Why does Adel have electricity in her hat?"

Electricity, and a fancy device in a purse.

Only problem was- Adel kept yanking at the wires! She'd forget about the whole contraption, but whenever she spotted the wires, she remembered.

And by remembered, I mean started clawing at the bandages and yanking the wires. I would redirect her hand- which invariably got redirected from my redirection in the form of a smack in my face. Or a pinch. She is learning fast from her brothers, this one.

Nineteen electrodes on the head; two on the back for heart rate.

This was my brilliant idea- see how the wires go down the shirt and out from the waist? They lead into this little kiddie backpack where I put the monitoring device. I bought this backpack a couple of years ago- it was cute, small and only $3. It's entirely velvet, including the straps, so very comfy! I strapped it onto Adel and pinned the straps with a mitten clip on Adel's chest so it wouldn't slide off her shoulders.

And this is how the poor darling slept.

If you think this looks uncomfortable, get this: Adel wasn't allowed to use cell phones, play electronic games, use the computer... or chew gum! For 20 hours! The horror!

I mentioned in the last post that Adel fell asleep without having any of her episodes that we want to monitor. But luckily, she woke up right before 2 AM and I was able to get her into the perfect state (not so sleepy that she'll fall right back asleep, and not too stimulated that she loses all the sleep from her eyes. Just roused enough to have some of those flappy jerky episodes.) I pressed the button on the device in the backpack to signalize the events are taking place. (Which means I had to be awake and aware at 2 AM. I will be accepting medals for my dedication. Stay tuned for the details on where and when you can award me.)

The technician told me that I may remove the EEG on my own in the morning. I thought I would have to travel to Manhattan 2 days in a row, but luckily she told me I can just send the machine back with someone- who happens to be Hillel, since he works not too far from this office.

Removing the electrodes was FUN. Aw, yeah.
How do you get cement out of a one-year-old's hair?

A: I kept wetting it and wetting it until it dissolved. It was quite a mess.

Here they all are. Electrode removal success!

Hope the results are as much of a success as the whole ordeal was!

  2. Anxious to hear the results. Norrah had to have the 24 at-home EEG monitor in the past. NOT THE MOST FUN THING IN THE WORLD TO DEAL WITH FOR 24 long hours. I am proud of you! So glad you got a few episodes on record. IT IS SO ANNOYING WHEN NOTHING HAPPENS. ARG!

I think another EEG is in our future. The "grizwalds" are back and we cannot figure out why.

  3. If I remember, Norrah's episodes didn't register. How did you find it in the end? I am afraid nothing will register, but that there is still something there.

I'm sorry the grizwalds are back. :( Is she taking medication? How are they controlled? Do you think she outgrew her dose?
