My big girl Adi went off to school today!
A natural model, she is. A view from every side. :)
Showing off her new backpack, new braces and new shoes. Fancy girl!
The proud brothers. :) They were so excited to have a photo of the first day that every kid in the family is going to school.
They were clapping and cheering for Adi, but she's had enough of photos. Let's do this school thing!
We arrived and Adi was greeted warmly by the teachers. She has three of them, and only four classmates! That's the kind of attention my girlie deserves. ;)
Adi started out with circle time where they were singing Old McDonald. She told everyone the names of the toy animals. She also told everyone about the TRAINS!!! she heard out the window.
Then she explored. Bouncy, bumpy peanut? Yes! Bouncy, bumpy peanut next to a mirror? Yes, please!!
Then the class had cereal. They let Adi feed herself with a spoon, and I almost couldn't watch. But she did great!
When she started kvetching and asking me to go out, they put her in the swing. That took care of the whining! I don't know how they got her out of there, but I guess they did, because their next activity was outdoor play.
I hightailed out of there before Adi could get the idea that she is going outside with ME.
I'm gonna go pick her up now, and I'll report how she did today. So curious!
I think it all went very well so far. No tears! And Adi didn't cry, either. ;)
On the way home, I felt like a free bird who didn't know what to do with the freedom. I went into Rite Aid, not because I needed anything, but because I wanted to know what it felt like to walk in and not hear shrieks coming from the stroller!
Mazal tov! She is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about you today...hope she had fun and is excited to go back tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteThat was a different Mindy, not me. Anyway, yes, that heady feeling of freedom when your special kid goes out for most of the day is indescribable. why did you stay so long? Next time you can leave as soon as she's settled and you'll have the whole day to yourself :D :D.
ReplyDeleteI hope she likes it there and makes progress! i'll keep reading!
Who is the mystery Mindy? I'm so curious. I'd love if you told me who you are!
ReplyDeleteMindy #2, I stayed that long because it was her first day and I wanted to make sure she was settled, comfortable... I had to tell the teachers about her cloth diapers, meet Adi's therapists. I brought her in at 9:30 and left at 10:30. Soon enough she will be going by bus, so I will be Adi-free from 8:30 till 2:30. I may even catch up with laundry sometime in this lifetime.
Wow! I'm feeling so emotional for you right now. And the red swing is great, by the way, we have one at my school ;-) Sending you guys hugs and kisses! And I LOVE her backpack.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the good thoughts and wishes, you guys!
ReplyDeletewow! must be so emotional! Enjoy the freedom, but I totally get the feeling like crying...
