It's been one and a half- (no, almost two!) weeks since summer vacation began, but as I've noticed in the past we don't really get in the groove of things until the first Shabbos passes.
I realized that unless I plot things out, I will forget about them. I have all these ideas for crafts to make, goals to meet, lessons to teach, places to travel... and then in a moment of boredom... we remain bored. I decided to get a weekly calendar type thing. I have one for Adel's appointments, but I wanted one for the summer. I realized that the year is half way over, and whatever planner I get, I will only start in the middle.
So imagine my surprise when I found a planner that starts on June 28th. I know, right? That's the beginning of the first full week of summer vacation. And it was only $4. Of course I snatched it... and began to fill it in.
So, as I've done the previous years, I will be chronicling the summer by the weeks.
Here is what happened in those few days before the calendar told me "it's time to plan!"
We soaked up the sun...
And the water!
Ever since Zusha became old enough to enjoy the sprinklers (many years ago) we have been covering the drain hole with a plastic bag to create a shallow and super-fun splash area!
Although this picture of Gedalya is blurry, I love his expression... and the reason for the blur as well.

We basically did quiet activities... visited parks, made some unguided crafts (that's when I put out the glue/tape/scissors and paper/embellishments/pictures collected from magazines and packages... and go relax. Heh heh heh.)
We marveled at the transformation of our butterflies, and then we let them go. We were planning to release them in Prospect Park, but instead we did so in our back yard because an old friend of mine was here from Israel and wanted to meet up that day.
So we did that as well.
Like I said, just a bunch of low-key activities to ease into the funnest summer we've had in ten months!
your boys aren't in camp?
ReplyDeleteNo. They prefer to stay home. My younger son isn't in yeshiva yet, so once he goes, and once they start asking to go to day camp, we'll start sending them.
ReplyDeleteso fun! wish we could come visit! maybe next time we are around. I think our boys would hit it off. Their personalities seem similar.
